Bowcock 5 September 2002 Dear Sir, I note with interest the latest pearls of wisdom spouted by Councillor David Williams as reported on your news pages. "Politics has got in the way of sensible decisions", he is reported to have said. As the residents of Twickenham know to their cost, he and his colleagues have had over 20 years of experience in this field relating to this site alone. In the parlance of "Have I Got News For You", a well known phrase containing the words "pot, kettle and black" spring to mind We are also informed of a warning that we, Richmond's taxpayers, "may face a huge legal bill". Could he please explain in public why that is so? Could it have anything to do with promises or binding agreements made to Dawnay Day in advance of a Planning Approval by his fellow Councillors or officers acting under their instructions? Also in the piece was another classic comment, "Another safer option ." I wonder if he would be good enough to list all the other safer options he was advised about over the years and chose to ignore, it would make very interesting reading. And, just by way of a reminder to Councillor Williams and his colleagues both current and former, they appear to have forgotten/neglected to respond to my question of where the residual £363,000 allocated to the pool site has got to, and what steps they are taking to recover the money. For now I'll accept they've been away on "bucket and spade parade", rehearsing for spending more time with their families, etc, but now they are back in the saddle, could they at least have the courtesy to furnish me with the details I have been requesting for such a long time. Or would he prefer to wait for another public meeting and further ritual humiliation? Yours faithfully
