Richmond C ouncil is encouraging its residents to drive environmentally-friendly vehicles by offering half-price parking permits to owners of gas or electric powered vehicles, or hybrids.

Owners will be able to take advantage of the reduced price. Residents with existing permits should contact one of the council's parking shops and a replacement permit will be issued and a refund arranged.

Applications for new permits should include the relevant details at the time the application is made.

Richmond Council's Director of Environment, Trevor Pugh, said: "We want to reward those people who already have environmentally-friendly vehicles and encourage those who don't to consider doing so.

"By promoting alternative, greener forms of transport we want to help bring about a safer, cleaner environment."
