FIGHTS BACK
On Thursday 19th August at about 1pm a retired 79 year old man was
standing in his kitchen in Talbot Road, Twickenham when he became
aware of someone standing next to him who said he was from Richmond
college and was collecting bottles and books for the college. Did
he have any? As the victim was talking to this lad he became aware
that someone was in his house upstairs, so he walked towards the stairs
but found himself held back by the lad who was in the kitchen with
him. He then lost his temper and managed to pick up a mallet that
had been left by the door and said to the lad holding onto him that
if they did not leave then he would hit him. Both males then departed
empty handed.

CHECK
BEFORE YOU BOOK
On Sunday 08th August 2004 a lady answered an advert in the local
paper the Richmond and Twickenham Times for tickets to the Madonna
concert at Earls Court. She spoke to the seller by phone and agreed
to send the required amount through the post as a postal order to
an address in Aberdeen. She duly sent her £200 postal order but no
tickets have been received. The postal order was delivered and signed
for. On checking with the ticket office at Earls Court with the ticket
details she was informed that they had never been booked.
CHECK
BEFORE YOU SPONSOR
On Monday 23rd August 2004 at 5.45pm a 25yr old male was going door
to door in Temple Sheen Road, Richmond. Police were called and stopped
the man and spoke to him it seemed that he was collecting sponsorship
for the NSPCC and indeed he had a form on him stating this, but he
said that he had found it on the floor. On further questioning it
appeared that he was not collecting for the Charity but for himself.
He was arrested for deception. Just a warning to check if possible
before you sponsor people. There are a lot of charities doing wonderful
things and need sponsorship but a few people out there trying to ruin
the public's generosity.
PLEASE
DON'T LEAVE VALUABLES VISABLE IN CARS
Even after a number of warnings from Police about leaving valuables,
bags etc in cars members of the public still insist on doing it. Very
few cars are broken into that have nothing on show. On Thursday 19th
August at about 8.15pm the female owner of a car, a company director,
parked her car in Lonsdale Rd outside Porterhouse in Barnes. She joined
some friends inside the venue. A member of staff alerted her that
a passer-by had seen two men standing by her car and they ran off
when they were noticed. The lady went to check her car to find that
the front and rear offside windows had been smashed and her briefcase
taken. Also taken were two mobile phones. Description of the suspects
only gives two males in hooded tops.
