Next stage for riverside site

Proposals for the temporary scheme for the old baths site on Twickenham Riverside have been submitted by Dearle and Henderson on behalf of Richmond upon Thames Council.

The site has been disused since the swimming pool - built in the 1930s - was shut in the 1980s.

A series of unsuccessful proposals and applications for houses, shops, restaurants and various other mixes of uses has now finally culminated in the demolition of the building.

The pool basin will remain fenced off until the long term future of the whole site is finally decided.

The application is for construction of a 56sq m single storey cafe with cedar boarding and a sheet metal roof, along with external works which include a garden and play area on the upstream end of the site, next to Wharf Lane.

There will be toilets in the cafe. The cafe, marked red on the site map, is surrounded by decking and overlooks the River Thames and Eel Pie Island.

The application is on the council website. The drawing is 2.5Mb in size which may take some time to download, especially for those not on a broadband connection.
