Neighbourly fun in St Margaret's |
|
St. Margaret's residents, in Twickenham, are winding up the summer with a day of fun for local people of all ages, on Saturday September 11th. Organised by the North St. Margaret's Residents' Association, local children will begin the day by marking the bounds of the area in an ancient "Beating the Bounds" ceremony, and there will be treats and prizes for the best fancy dress, as well as willow wands to "mark" the boundary. During the afternoon local streets will be transformed into an open market, as local residents set up pavement and front garden stalls in the Grand Annual Street Sale, offering bargains ranging from home-made produce to toys, books and bric a brac. The day culminates in All Souls Church Hall with a wine tasting, presented by the highly acclaimed "Good Wine Shop", and a party with live rock band "Otis". Tickets for this event are just £5.00, which includes the wine tasting and party. Martyn Day of the North St. Margaret's Residents' Association said, "I am really looking forward to our Neighbours' Fun Day. It will be a chance to meet old friends, make some new ones and remind ourselves that our streets are for living in, and not just parking cars! " North St. Margarets Residents' Association covers the area north of the Ailsa Tavern on St. Margarets Road, Twickenham and includes Northcote Road, Haliburton Road, Heron Road, Newry Road and Talbot Road. Buses H37 from Richmond or Hounslow go there, or it is a ten minutes walk from St. Margaret's station, and a five minute minute walk from Richmond Lock footbridge and the Great River Race.
