Three post offices to go

The Post Office has confirmed that it will ax three of the five sub-post offices listed for closure.

The post office in Priory Road, Hampton, will close on 16 September.

Kingston Road in Teddington and Hampton Road in Fulwell will serve their last customers on 14 and 16 August respectively.

MP Vincent Cable presented 2,300 objections to the closures and made strenuous appeals, with the consumer watch dog Postwatch, to keep all five post offices open.

He was supported with findings that overwhelmingly showed how much local people use and appreciate their local post offices.

However, Dr Cable reports that the Post office is reconsidering its decision on closure of Tangley Park in Hampton, and Nelson Road in Whitton.

He said: "I very much regret the closures. The Post Office have tried to sugar the pill in Hampton by introducing longer hours and better facilities at the Station Road branch. But there is little doubt that the elderly and people with disabilities will be seriously inconvenienced at all three branches.

"I continue to hope that the community will salvage something as a result of the protests and appeals on the two remaining branches. But the Post Office is giving way on only a few appeals on the hundreds of closures across London."
