HAM POST OFFICE - TEMPORARY STAY

Susan Kramer, LibDem prospective parliamentary candidate for Richmond Park, has welcomed a three month temporary reprieve for the Post Office in Ham Parade

Ms Kramer said: "It's good news that the Post Office has taken sufficient notice of the many representations from residents and local councillors to reconsider its decision to close the post office in Ham Parade.

"When I last met with Post Office management it was clear that they had misunderstood the distance to next nearest post office. This is the last post office remaining open in Ham. Every other one has been closed.

"Many older people live near Ham Parade but could never manage the journey to the next nearest post office on Tudor Drive. When you need the support of a cane to walk along, a half mile more is an impossible obstacle.

"Its also hard to see how the Tudor Drive post office could cope with a big increase in customers especially at times like Christmas.

"Local businesses need the post office as well. Its loss could put the success of the Ham Parade shops at risk. But the battle for the Ham Parade post office is far from won. Only a reconsideration has been agreed. It's crucial that local people demonstrate the value of the Ham post office by using it as much as possible."
