WORKING FORCE WANTED |
|
The Friends of the River Crane Environment (FORCE), set up in 2003 to represent the interests of the environment, local residents and visitors to the corridors of the River Crane and the Duke of Northumberland's River within the London Borough of Richmond, have announced their programme of volunteer days. FORCE opened to public membership in April 2004 and currently has over 340 members - but more are always welcome to take part in the volunteer work over autumn and winter. In a move designed to co-ordinate with London Wildlife Trust and BTCV the volunteer days will be on the second Sunday of the month, starting Sunday 12th September at Twickenham Rifle Club entrance, off Craneford Way in the Heatham Estate, from 10-30am. Old clothes and stout shoes or boots are recommended. Said FORCE chair, Rob Gray; "It is important that local people are able to get involved with the management and maintenance of their local public spaces and these monthly events will provide an opportunity for everyone to get stuck in. All ages and abilities will be welcomed for part or all of the day to help with planting trees, graffiti removal, construction of beetle loggeries and minor landscaping works. Group leaders will be providing tips and support throughout." As an extra incentive, FORCE will host a barbecue from 5pm on the Rifle Club site and all volunteers and members are welcome to stay and enjoy a well-earned event. Future events are: Sun 10th Oct, 10:30am Volunteer Day, Crane Park; Sun 14th Nov, 10:30am Volunteer Day, Mereway Allotments; Sun 12th Dec, 10:30am Volunteer Day, Rifle Club More information on FORCE and their plans for the area can be found through the FORCE website or by contacting Rob on 8892 9518.
