FORCE holds its second annual open day |
|
On Sunday 20th June, as part of the Twickenham Festival, FORCE will be holding its second annual Open Day at Cranefield Playing Fields and nearby allotments.
The Friends of the River Crane Environment (FORCE) is a local group, set up in 2003 to represent the interests of the environment, local residents and visitors to the corridors of the River Crane and the Duke of Northumberland's River within the London Borough of Richmond. Festivities will run from 12 noon until 5pm on Craneford Playing Fields west as well as the Marsh Farm allotments site, Twickenham Rifle Club and the Mereway site. It is a family day out with lots of entertainment for children of all ages including an entertainer and story teller, a treasure hunt, face painters and an environmental assault course. Harlequins Rugby Club is offering coaching skills courses for all at 1pm and 4pm. There will be an opportunity for young people and adults to try their hand at indoor rifle shooting at the Rifle Club, as well as practical demonstrations of organic gardening and bee-keeping skills on the allotments. FORCE representatives will also be there to explain the small scale improvements already taking place in the area and collect views and opinions on some of the larger scale proposals that are currently taking shape. Rob Gray, Chair of FORCE, said; "We extend a warm invitation to local people and visitors to come along for an hour or enjoy the whole afternoon with us; entertainments will be provided for all ages and this is an opportunity to experience a local community event and potentially contribute to how this community grows and develops in the future." Craneford Playing Fields are off Craneford Way in the Heatham Estate, Twickenham, and can be accessed via the Crane Walk from Twickenham Station or Kneller Gardens, and via the pedestrian railway crossing from Marsh Farm Road leading to Twickenham Green and Radnor Gardens. The event is supported by the Scarman Trust and The Countryside Trust and all events are free. FORCE now has something like 300 members and welcomes anyone with an interest to join in. Membership forms will be available at the Open Day, by contacting FORCE by e-mail on FORCE@twickenham-online.co.uk or through the Membership Secretary, Mike Day on 8893 3503. Thursday, June 10, 2004
